Armstrong – 11 Comments. 76.3K Roku Purple Logo () Table of Contents Introduction Enabling Roku Developer Mode How to add Roku Private Channels Manually checking for updates Recommended Roku Private Channel Codes Roku Private Channel Codes Feedback Introduction One of the many presents I received over the Christmas period was a Roku Express. I had been thinking of getting one of these for ages as I travel a lot and thought it would be a good companion so that I could watch whatever I wanted when sat it European hotel rooms. he first thing I noticed when I fired up the Roku was that the usual on-demand apps were there – YouTube, BBC iPlayer, Netflix etc, but what if I wanted the football or movies? Most the of free official stuff available is pretty weak so I wanted to sideload some more exciting apps after hearing about hidden Roku apps. I was also made aware that there are a huge range of channel codes that you can enter into your Roku device to get what most people refer to as private channels on Roku. This is a really simple process, you just have to enable the developer mode on the Roku and then add the private channel codes of the apps you want to it using your online Roku account. Enabling Roku Developer Mode To enable Roku developer mode, you have to go through a short sequence of remote control presses, a bit like using the Up, Down, Left, Right, A, B, C cheat for Sonic on the Mega Drive (yes I got a mini Mega Drive for Christmas as well!). The key presses you need to make are, from the Roku default start screen in this order: Home – three times Up – two times Right – one time Left – one time Right – one time Left – one time Right – one time This will then take you to the Roku Developer Settings secret page. You can go ahead and select the Enable Installer and restart option: Roku Developer Mode Roku Developer Mode You will then get to the SDK License Agreement page, you can go ahead and click on the I Agree button for this to continue: Roku Developer Mode Agreement Screen Roku Developer Mode Agreement Screen You will then be at the Select development webserver password page, just enter any password that you want to set, but write it down as you may want to use the web file access one day and will need it to do that. Roku Developer Mode Web Server Roku Developer Mode Web Server Once you have entered your password, go to the Set password and reboot option and press the OK button. Your Roku will now reboot and once complete, it will be ready to have apps sideloaded onto it. How to add Roku Private Channels Login to your online Roku account here. Click on the little man icon at the top right of the screen and select the My Account option from the drop-down menu: Roku TV My Account drop down menu Roku TV – My Account This will take you to the My Account page. Under the Manage account section, you will see a link to Add channel with a code link – go ahead and click that link: Roku TV add a Channel Code Roku TV add a Channel Code This will then take you to the Add channel page. This is where you should enter your Roku private channel code and click on the Add Channel button: Roku TV add a private channel code Roku TV add a private channel code You will then get the pop up box warning you that adding private channel can be bad and you shouldn’t do it – you can make your own mind up if you wish to continue! However, for the purposes of this guide, we will click on the OK button and continue: Roku TV Private Channel code warning Roku TV Private Channel code warning You will now see the page with the preview of the channel that you are trying to add. For this guide, we are trying to add Crackle, once you are happy with that, click on the Yes, add channel button: Roku private channel code for crackle Manually checking for updates This will then add the Roku private channel code to your Roku account. However, that is not quite the end of what you need to do. You will now need to go back onto your Roku device and force a system update to get these account changes. To do that, carry out these simple steps on your Roku device: Press the Home button home on your Roku remote. Scroll up or down and select Settings. Select System. Select System update. Note: The System update screen displays the current software and build version, along with the date and time of the latest update. Select Check Now to manually check for updates. If there is new software available or there are updates for your channels, then your Roku player will download and install them automatically and once completed, your Roku player will reboot. Once the reboot is complete, you should then see the channel that you added through your online Roku account. Is that where you start from? I tried from the animated Roku screen that shows after you plug it in but no response there either. REPLY Ginny G says:25th April 2020 at 07:23 Fir some bloody batty reason, I’m receiving this error message: “The channel code provided is associated with a channel not available in your region”. Please help… REPLY robert says:15th April 2020 at 00:37 Its too bad all those codes don’t give you any info on what your downloading REPLY Angela says:26th March 2020 at 04:10 I don’t understand what difference this ‘developer’s mode ‘ step makes. I was always able to add and watch these channels without doing this. I followed the steps anyway and I see nothing different. No other perks, privileges nor abilities. Am I missing something? REPLY katharineq says:7th January 2020 at 00:45 Just wondering why I cannot load any Canadian channels, even though I live in Canada. Every time I try, it says I do not live in the region. Doesn’t make sense to me. REPLY A.J. Armstrong says:7th January 2020 at 23:02 Was it bought from new and activated in Canada using a local internet connection? (i.e. not using a VPN?) REPLY A.J. REPLY Anonymous says:11th September 2019 at 00:27 Its quite clear that this entire list was copied from another source. As several channels don’t have codes, but rather a line of text that would be a hyper link. GG on checking what you post. REPLY A.J. Armstrong says:11th September 2019 at 00:36 No idea what you are talking about but if you are saying the list of channels are copied from elsewhere – of course they are! If you read the article it even says that! Do you think I had 100’s of Roku channels in my head and then typed them all out? I’ve put in the article itself that they are codes I’ve found on the internet and put into a list. No idea what you mean by hyperlink text as I can’t see that.
